Claude Arrieu (1903–1990) forged a singular style that broke free from the aesthetic trends she witnessed flourish throughout the 20th century. At the same time, she paid a great deal of attention to the advancements of her era, and was particularly interested in the evolution of musical language and new technical developments. This Sonatine is designed for advanced players but can also be played by intermediate students, although in this case, because of its expressivity and virtuosity, the third movement should probably be played a bit slower.
