Gerd Schaller is regarded as one of the most important contemporary Bruckner interpreters: after studying conducting and working at various German state theatres, Gerd Schaller has been active as a freelance conductor since 2006 and has repeatedly been invited as a guest conductor by numerous well-known orchestras in Germany and abroad.

In 2008 he also founded the Philharmonie Festiva, a symphony orchestra with selected musicians of top German orchestras, with which he has since pursued his own demanding projects.

The music of Anton Bruckner has been at the centre of Gerd Schaller’s oeuvre for many years, and the conductor was fascinated by the combination of the deepest emotionality and highest complexity from an early age. Schaller’s large-scale project Bruckner2024 also results from this fascination, with the aim of recording Bruckner’s essential works in a personal view on CD by his 200th birthday in 2024.
