Hy Zaret, actually Hyman Harry Zaritsky was an American songwriter and composer.
Zaret, son of Russian immigrant Max Zaritsky, a clothing manufacturer, and Dora Schiffman had his name changed in 1934.
He became known in 1955 as the lyricist of the song "Unchained Melody" (music by Alex North), which with 215 cover versions is one of the most played songs of the 20th century. In 1956 he was nominated for the song at the Oscar in the category "Best Song".
