The composer and pianist Michaela Rea Catranis studied piano at the Peabody Conservatory as well as at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen and composition at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler with Prof. Hanspeter Kyburz and Prof. Wolfgang Heiniger.
She is the winner of the TONALi18 Composition Prize as well as other competitions, prizes and scholarships in both fields. (among others Clara Schumann scholarship of the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler 2017, Hanns Eisler composition and performance prize 2015, scholarship holder of the Peabody Conservatory of Music - Johns Hopkins 2008, twice scholarship holder of the Boston University Tangelowood Institute for Young Artists).
Her works have already been performed at important festivals such as Lucerne Festival (Lucerne 2016) Mehrlicht! (Berlin 2016) "Dušan Radić" New Music Festival (Serbia 2014), and also played by various ensembles (including Ensemble Kuraia , New Music Ensemble CESAM, Lucerne Festival Ensemble).
Michaela has been working in Berlin as a composer and interpreter since 2012. She is particularly interested in interdisciplinary projects and leads her own performance ensemble "menajiri" with a focus on new music and hybrid art.
