Football!

The composition „Football!“ is a musical setting of a soccer match. At the beginning, the marching in of the two opposing teams is depicted, with each team having a four-bar theme. After the kickoff, during which the refereereferee’s whistle is heard, a fast-paced rock rhythm begins. The two themes that were previously in a major key are now heard in a minor key. Next, fan chants like the famous „Olé, Olé, Olé“ or the Anton Bruckner motif, which gained great popularity through the interpretation of the „White Stripes“, are heard.

The passing of the ball is indicated by short quarter notes and accompanied by rapid eighth notes, symbolizing the running of the players*. After a foul, the match picks up speed again. Both themes are now played simultaneously and combined with body percussion. Finally, one team scores a goal and the theme assigned to that team now sounds fanfare-like in major. But the game is not over yet: After the referee‘s whistle, the running and passing of the ball begins anew. A little later, the composition ends with the final whistle.
