The repertoire for saxophone has only developed since the second half of the 19th century, after the instrument was created in the 1840s. If an ensemble of saxophones wishes to play music of earlier times, there is only the possibility to arrange suitable compositions.
In this book dance music of the Renaissance and the Early Baroque Era is published. These compositions with their homophone texture and the small range of the parts are very suitable for the performance with saxophones. The typical sound of saxophones is very similar to the sound of the krummhorns which often played this music.
