"Memories of the Tuscan Countryside"
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco Collection
In this Second Piano Quintet Op. 155 (Beverly Hills, 1951), Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, an exile in the United States since the racial laws, abandons himself to the wave of “Memories of the Tuscan Countryside” by evoking, in the form of a romantic, Schubert-like quintet, the dearest places of his “homeland, so beautiful and lost”. He himself states that the composition may be enjoyed both as programme music (guided by the numerous indications he provides within the text) and as pure music.
