Franz Schubert’s The Sheperd on the Rock, for soprano, clarinet and piano, is beloved by all clarinettists.
Gregory Barrett has combined, for three clarinets, Schubert’s melodies and motifs with stylistic elements from rock music. Each of the five movements titles refers to text in Schubert’s original but uses modern vernacular as a rock song would.
When performed, one will hear that The three shepherds rock.
