The "Altbairische Blasmusik" was founded by Karl Edelmann in 1987. The eleven musicians from all over Upper Bavaria feel connected to the great folk and brass music tradition and delight their listeners through lively interpretation and genuine down-to-earthness. The typical Bavarian wind music is a small ensemble, as it existed in Old Bavaria around the turn of the century in almost every village. It can be heard with the typical instrumentation:
- a clarinet section (2 Bb clarinets, plus the sharp sound of the E-flat clarinet)
- a brass section (2 trumpets, an ingratiating secondary voice by tenor horn/baritone)
- Rhythm emphasis by tuba and 3-part after-beat (trombone, bass trumpet, E-flat trumpet)
From its origin this music is dance music and so you can find waltzes, Landler, Bavarian Polka, Scottish, Mazurka and Zwiefache as typical Bavarian pieces in the repertoire. The traditional sound was developed by Karl Edelmann in the form of musically interesting and attractive arrangements; in addition there are newly composed solo pieces to do justice to the technique and virtuosity of the wind instruments.
The Altbairische Blasmusik has meanwhile become the model and embodiment of lively music-making for this type of traditional Bavarian music through radio recordings, television appearances, numerous sound carriers and not least through many appearances throughout Bavaria and beyond.
