Wolfgang Jacobi (1894-1972) was born in Bergen, near Rügen, and studied at the academy of music in Berlin. From 1936 Jacobi lived in Munich, where he continued to devote himself to his work as a composer in spite of the National Socialist ban on Jews continuing in employment. In 1946 he started teaching at the Handel Conservatoire in Munich, later becoming professor of composition at the academy of music in the same city.
