"Captain Marco" is Hayato Hirose's first work for wind orchestra and was composed in 1998. In this dramatic work the Japanese Hirose creates a musical bond between Europe and Asia by setting the life of the famous travelling salesman Marco Polo to music. Captain Marco was not only one of the first great seafarers and explorers at all, but he also left his experiences in a book that at explained Asia to the Europeans and is obviously still very inspiring today.
