Les Cheneaux Impressions

This ambitious work was inspired by the Les Cheneaux region in northern Michigan. Written in the form of a suite, each movement describes a different element of this area steeped in colorful history and beauty.

“EarlyExploration” is a bold statement with stirring brass and powerful percussion writing. “Onomonee” is reminiscent of the early native people to inhabit the region and features a solo Indian Flute (opt. recorderor flute) along with contemporary harmonies and rhythm patterns. “Huron Nocturne” is a marvelously lyric movement which features the woodwinds. “New Beginnings” brings this impressive work to aclose with an energetic 6/8 pulse and spirited melodies.
