The Enchanted Wanderer

Shchedrin's concert opera 'The Enchanted Wanderer' has quickly established a solid position in the music scene. Now, Schott has published the study score of the successful and impressive work. Deep Slavonic emotion and riveting virtuosity - this is what characterises this piece as well as many other compositions by Shchedrin. Even though he has been a cosmopolitan for a long time, the Moscow-born Shchedrin has remained an original Russian composer whose bond with Russian musical folklore and poetry has never been severed. The text of this 'opera for the concert stage' is based on a story by the great Russian writer Nikolai S. Leskov. Three solo singers, large choir and orchestra tell the dramatic story in colourful musical pictures.
