The most renowned cellist in 19th century France, Auguste Franchomme (1808 1884) was the chamber music partner and dear friend of Chopin, Solo Cellist of the Musique du Roi, Principal cellist of both the Conservatorys Concert Society orchestra andthe Thé tre-Italien opera orchestra, cellist of the influential Alard-Franchomme Chamber Music Society, and a professor at the Paris Conservatory.
