Description
This piece was commissioned by the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force Band from the Japanese city of Kure (Hiroshima) on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. The composer used a passage from Kosaku Yamada's Umi No Sakimori ("Sakimori of the Sea"), a ceremonial music of the Maritime Self-Defense Forces. The piece Homage expresses Yagisawa's respect for Yamada and his work - a homage to a composer whose legacy includes numerous Japanese songs.
