Sheet music by Alexander Mayr

Alexander Mayr received his first musical training within the framework of the Vienna Boys Choir. He began his vocal studies at the Salzburg "Mozarteum" and completed them with Prof. Franz Lukasovsky at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

He is regarded as a specialist for high tenor roles and thus roles from this subject, such as the nose and the Wachtmeister in Shostakovich’s "Nase", the astrologer in Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Golden Cock" or the student Arkenholz in Reimann’s "Gespenstersonate" form the focus of his repertoire. As he came into contact with modern music at an early age, he celebrated many successes as an interpreter of contemporary music: such as Schreber in the premiere of Peter Androsch’s opera of the same name at the Klagenfurt Stadttheater and in the title role of the opera "Ion" at the Aldeburgh Festival and the Almeida Festival in England, as a merchant in Rihm’s "Jakob Lenz" at the Salzburg Festival, or in spring 2011 with the tenor role in the internationally acclaimed opera premiere of Stockhausen’s "Sonntag aus Licht" at the Cologne Opera.

His traditional repertoire from the Baroque to the Romantic includes opera and operetta roles from the character, lyrical and performance fields, such as Mengone (Der Apotheker/Haydn), Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro), Janek (Vec Makropulos/Janacek), Armande (Graf v. Luxembourg), Brioche (Merry Widow), Stanislaus (Bird Dealer), Spalanzani, as well as Franz/Cochenille/Pitichinaccio/Andreas (Hoffmann’s Tales), Trin (La Fanciulla del West/Puccini), Scaramucio (Ariadne), Protagonist (Protagonist/Weill), and many more.
