Paul Meisen is a German flutist and university professor.
Meisen studied at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold with Kurt Redel. Initially a flutist with the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, Meisen worked from 1954 to 1972 as solo flutist with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra and in between (1962/63) with the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich. In 1960 he was awarded first prize at the ARD International Music Competition. In 1972 he received a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and in 1981 at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. After his retirement, Paul Meisen held a guest professorship at the National University of Fine Arts and Music Tokyo from 1996 to 2003.
On the occasion of Meisen’s 75th birthday, the MDG label released a retrospective of five CDs.
