Queen made music history with Bohemian Rhapsody, a six-minute, three-part mini-rock opera, but the band, consisting of frontman Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, bass guitarist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor, was extremely versatile. They produced songs with pounding beats like We Will Rock You and Another One Bites the Dust, rock ballads in the style of Who Wants to Live Forever and Love of my Life, and songs shaped by glam rock and disco complete their wide repertoire. Together with superstar David Bowie, they landed the 1981 world hit Under Pressure.
After the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, at the young age of 45, the band set about organising a tribute concert in his honour, to raise money to fight AIDS. At the 1992 concert at Wembley Stadium, they were joined by artists including Elton John, David Bowie and George Michael, to name but a few. Since then, Queen has continued to perform all around the world, and they are often joined today by singer Adam Lambert. The West End paid tribute to the band by launching the 2002 hit musical We Will Rock You, featuring music by Queen, and written by Ben Elton and Brian May, and the 2018 blockbuster film Bohemian Rhapsody, a Freddie Mercury biopic, won four Oscars, two Golden Globes and two BAFTAs.
