Schwerpunkt der Schule ist - wie auch bei der Sopranschule des gleichen Verlags - das frühe Einführen des Schülers in das Gruppenspiel. So sind gleich von Beginn alle Stücke für zwei Spieler und mögliche Gitarrenbegleitung notiert. Die Begleitstimmen können von den Schülern selbst gespielt werden, entsprechen also dem bereits erarbeiteten Niveau.
Fast alle Stücke sind zweistimmig und können z.B. im Gruppenunterricht von unterschiedlichen Schülern gespielt werden. Oktavierung wird von Anfang an mit einbezogen.
