New Sounds For Concert Band 157
40 years after his death, Louis Armstrong is still one of the best-known jazz trumpeters and singers. Naohiro Iwai used "dark eyes" in his medley, an original Russian folk song that Armstrong adopted in 1954 with a distinctive version. This is followed by the jazz standard "Georgia on My Mind" from 1930, which contains a tenor saxophone solo, and "When You're Smiling" from 1929, two of Armstrong's greatest hits from his younger years.
