Der italienische Komponist Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina wurde um 1525 geboren. Das erste bekannte Dokument in dem Palestrina erwähnt wird, stammt aus Rom, dennoch wird als Geburtsort mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit Palestrina, das uralte etruskisch-römische Praeneste in den Sabinerbergen angenommen, aus dessen Bürgertum seine Familie stammt.
Nach einem schaffensreichen Leben als Kapellmeister, Organist, Kompo-nist, Sänger und Lehrer, starb er am 2. Februar 1594 in Rom.
