Dämonisches Stück für Flöte solo
Composed for Volume 3, the letter D of the integral CD project From A to Z by the flutist Sharon Bezaly, Brett Dean makes extensive use of the corresponding note in a seven-minute solo work: Demons starts with hammering high Ds, to be played in a highly excited and 'demonic' way with an enormous amount of different timbres, articulations, harmonics and nuances.
The piece then takes a new direction and reveals a short, but dense 'rondo form'. The first part, dominated by the 'D', returns in the midst of contrasting sections until its energy is used up... Sharon Bezaly's recording was released on the Swedish BIS label (BIS SACD 1459).
