Written in 1984 for clarinetist Ross Powell and the Caruth Auditorium at Southern Methodist University, Chalumeau prefers a large, resonant space. It is scored for one onstage clarinet (unamplified), with a second clarinet (amplified) preferably situated behind the audience and raised.
