Die Landon-Fassung des Mozart-Experten H. C. Robbins Landon setzte Maßstäbe. Landon griff bei seiner sorgfältigen und auf dem neuesten Stand der Forschung herausgegebenen Arbeit erstmals auf die Versuche aller drei Mozart-Schüler Franz Xaver Süßmayr, Joseph Eybler und Franz Jakob Freystädtler zurück. Sein Konzept, das unvollendete Meisterwerk so zu präsentieren, dass es ihren Ergänzungen von 1791/92 möglichst nahe kommt, hat sich in der Praxis bewährt. Wer Mozarts Requiem heute in dieser historischen Gestalt aufführen und dabei weder auf die tradierte Süßmayr-Fassung noch auf neue Restaurierungen oder sogar Kompositionsversuche zurückgreifen will, ist mit der Landon-Fassung bestens beraten.
