The title of this work has been taken from an account, known as De Bello Gallico, by Julius Caesar, which tells of the conquest of Gaul (58 BC-50 BC). The original report, which is of major historical value today, consisted of 7 parchment manuscripts. Bart Picqueur, inspired by these manuscripts, describes a major battle between the Belgic Nervii tribe and the Romans, seen from the Nervii point of view which throws new light on events. The work is made up of several parts giving a musical description of each scene. The message at the end of the piece expresses the futility of a war in which everyone is a loser. This spectacular composition contains countless impressiveeffects and is suitable for concerts or competitions.
