Im Deutsch-Verzeichnis findet sich unter der Nummer 863 der Eintrag "An Gott. Ein- oder mehrstimmige Vokalkomposition. Text: Ch. Ch. Hohlfeld. 1827 oder früher. Verschollen."
Die Quelle der vorliegenden Ausgabe ist eine Abschrift, die im Nachlass eines 1991 verstorbenen Hamburger Antiquitätensammlers auftauchte. Der Schreiber ist Rudolf Vierengel (1904-1978) aus Miltenberg, Jurist und Historiker, kein Musiker. Über Vierengels Vorlage ist nichts bekannt.
Die Editionsleitung der Neuen Schubert Ausgabe (Werner Aderhold) hält "die Autorschaft Franz Schuberts für äußerst unwahrscheinlich".
