In 1956, Alexandre Tansman presented the guitarist Andrés Segovia with this suite in six movements conceived like a musical portrait of the Spanish guitarist. Segovia was not fully satisfied with the outcome of all six pieces and reduced the suite to just three movements, later published between 1962 and 1964 by Éditions Max Eschig under the title Trois Pièces pour guitare.
Starting from the text established in the 2nd volume of the critical edition of Tansman’s works for guitar by Frédéric Zigante (Œuvres pour guitare – Suites, DF 16637), this edition restores the complete suite, with the addition of fingerings by Andrea De Vitis.
