Applause
Showdown for Band wurde als Pflichtstück für den 3. Internationalen Wettbewerb für Unterhaltungsmusik in St. Gallen (Schweiz) im Jahr 1998 komponiert. Der Komponist wollte ein unterhaltsames Stück schreiben, das aber – vor allem in rhythmischer Hinsicht – auch eine Herausforderung für die verschiedenen Blasorchester darstellt. Das Werk besteht aus vier Abschnitten: Opening, Ballad, Finale und Ending. Durch die Verwendung gefälliger Melodien und eine abwechslungsreiche Instrumentation werden unterschiedliche klangliche Facetten des Blasorchesters präsentiert. Das Solo im Mittelteil kann entweder vom Sopran-Saxophon oder vom Alt-Saxophon gespieltwerden, oder aber auch von einem Flügelhorn. Da die eindrucksvolle Komposition viele interessante musikalische Elemente enthält, eignet sie sich auch hervorragend als Eröffnungsstück für ein Konzert mit Unterhaltungsmusik.
