Über das Leben des Konponisten ist wenig bekannt. Um 1670 in England geboren, wirkte er jahrzehntelang in Italien und kehrte gegen Ende seines Lebens (um1730) nach England zurück. Seine Kompositionen verraten in ihrer prägnanten Themenbildungund der straffen Form des Aufbaus neben typisch englischen Zügen deutlich den Einfluss der italienischen Schule. Voller musikalischer Einfälle sind sie durch und durch musikantischer Natur und gerpägt vom Geist hoher Spielfreudigkeit. Die Kompositionen dieser Serie sind Originalwerke für Blockflöte.
