Ludwig van Beethoven konzipierte seine 7. Symphonie im Sommer 1811 im böhmischen Kurbad Teplitz. Die Reinschrift des Partitur-Autographs erfolgte 1812. Das Werk erklang erstmals am 8. Dezember 1813 in der Aula der Universität Wien, als die 7. Symphonie – zusammen mit der Programmsymphonie Wellingtons Sieg oder die Schlacht bei Vittoria op. 91 – unter enthusiastischem Beifall uraufgeführt wurde.
Die vorliegende Urtext-Ausgabe basiert erstmalig auf der Auswertung sämtlicher zum Werk überlieferter Quellen.
Die Partitur enthält den vollständigen Kritischen Bericht. Besonders wichtig erscheinende Anmerkungen und Abweichungen von gängigen Ausgaben sind darin klar gekennzeichnet.
