CAFFEE Variations

The majestic Lichtenberg Castle rises near the town of Kusel in the West Palatinate. It houses the Musikantenmuseum, dedicated to the Palatinate hikers. In the past there was bitter poverty in this area, because the soil was barren and there was no other way to find work. Therefore many men became musicians and played in Paris, London, New York, Berlin and many other places all over the world.

When Kees Vlak von Kusel received an award, he composed his "C-a-f-f-e-e Variations" with the subtitle: "How the Palatinate musicians all over the world drank their coffee" as a small thank you in the tower chamber of Burg Lichtenberg.

Variation 1 stands for Irish Coffee. Rüdesheim is the focus of Variation 2. The Tarantella of variation 3 describes a wonderful cappuccino. Variation 4 comes from Moscow, where you drink vodka with coffee. Variation 5 finally is the alpine mocha. The 6th variation is dedicated to the capital of Austria and the Viennese Melange. Variation 7 undoubtedly refers to the "Folies Bergère", the "Moulin Rouge" and of course French Coffee, which is best served with a Grand Marnier.

Kees Vlak's "Caffee Variations" are a really funny and varied composition. A great fun for musicians and audience.
