"Adeste fideles" für Sinfonisches Blasorchester
"Adeste fideles" ist der Titel eines der bekanntesten Weihnachtslieder. Die deutsche Version ist als „Nun freut euch, ihr Christen" oder auch als "Herbei, o ihr Gläubigen", die englische als "O Come All Ye Faithful" bekannt. Es wurde um 1743 von John Francis Wade (1711–1786) komponiert. Das erste Manuskript enthielt sowohl die Melodie als auch den lateinischen Text und wurde 1760 in den Evening Offices of the Church veröffentlicht.
Bereits 1751 hatte Wade den Text in seinem Werk Cantus Diversi publiziert. Frederick Oakeley und Thomas Brooke übersetzten das Lied ins Englische, diese Version wurde erstmals 1852 in Murray’s Hymnal veröffentlicht. Das Lied wird gelegentlich auch Portugiesischer Choral genannt, weil es oft in der Kapelle der Portugiesischen Botschaft in London, wo Vincent Novello Organist war, gesungen wurde.
